New Delhi: The South Asian University, established by the 8 SAARC nations, has announced admission to its Masters and PhD programmes for the tenth batch. For the first time, the university will conduct its Entrance Test using computer-based online testing system. Applicants can take the tests on scheduled slots on 27 and 28 April 2019 across multiple cities/centres in South Asia.
Admission will be offered on merit as per the results of the Entrance Test. For PhD aspirants, the test will be followed by a submission of a research proposal and personal interview. Applicants from Non-SAARC countries can apply for direct admission with their academic credentials without having to take the test.
The student composition in this international university consists entirely of scholars from the eight member nations of the SAARC – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. About half the students are from India while the remaining half are from the rest of the SAARC countries, baring a few students from other continents. Each SAARC country has a quota but if the number of students from any particular country run short of the allotted quota, the remaining available seats are filled up by students from other countries as per SAU rules.
Established in 2010, the university at present offers Masters and PhD programmes in the areas of Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Economics, Legal Studies, International Relations and Sociology. SAU also offers generous scholarships to students on means-cum-merit basis, the details of which are available on the SAU website. Students are granted specially-created multiple entry SAU visas.
Dr. Kavita Sharma, President SAU said, “We are happy that the number of applications to our Masters and Research Programmes is increasing considerably with each passing year. That goes to show the steady increase in the popularity of our programmes in particular and the university in general. When we move to our permanent campus in Maidan Garhi, where the construction is going on, we will be starting new faculties and introducing new programmes and this in turn will also increase the intake.”
The last date for submission of applications at SAU is 29 March 2019 and candidates can apply through the university website www.sau.int. Further details such as curriculum, eligibility criteria, scholarships, faculties can also be accessed from the website.
To further facilitate free flow of information between the university and prospective students, SAU has opened a dedicated admission blog, which, among other things, provides detailed information about the programmes, admission procedure, videos and details of Admission Volunteers with whom one can interact and ask questions about the admission process and other things concerning the university. Those interested can also communicate with the university through social networking pages.
